Wrestling: Douglas in 14th after two days at SNC

After the first day of the prestigious Sierra Nevada Classic wrestling tournament, Douglas High School stood in 14th as a team with one wrestler through to the final rounds.


Tony Ferris, the Tigers' standout 189-pounder, pinned his way into the final round with his longest match only going 1:49.


Wes Peterson (112), Timmy Souza (119), Nico Barker (130), CJ Wynar (135), Cody Spates (140) and Ryan Olsen (145) all advanced past the first round, but suffered defeats in the second.


After suffering a first-round defeat, Dillon Spates (103) worked his way back through the consolation bracket with three wins to stay alive.


Also in the consolation bracket, Peterson took a 10-6 decision to advance to the next day, Barker recorded three pins to stay alive, Wynar won two decisions before bowing out, Cody Spates recorded a pin before bowing out and Souza took a 7-2 decision before losing 11-5 to end his weekend at the tournament.
