A search-and-rescue operation was called off Thursday evening after a skier who was reported missing was found walking on Highway 50 toward the casinos, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
The skier, a 38-year-old man from San Jose, was skiing with friends at Heavenly Mountain Resort when he went down the wrong trail and became disoriented on the resort's California side, Sgt. Jim Halsey said.
The man's friends had last seen him around 3 p.m. and reported him missing at about 5:30 p.m.
Authorities found him walking on Highway 50.
The man had planned to catch a cab back to Tramway Drive.
