It's a chilly morning out on this New Year's Eve, with the high temperature at about 25 degrees. Law enforcement officials are gearing up for tonight's annual revel in Stateline and then to celebrate, the annual opening of fishing at Topaz Lake on Jan. 1.
According to a statement issued by the National Weather Service, we can expect some rough weather over the next week or so as a trough rolls in over the west coast. Forecasters are expecting 5-10 feet of snow on the Sierra crest with multiple feet elsewhere in the Sierra. However, with winds forecast to be unusually strong, there is a chance the whole mess will shred when it hits the mountains. The storm will start with rain down here and graduate to snow as conditions cool.
Until the storms roll in on Thursday, it will be clear with the high temperature climbing to 39 degrees today and then up to 45 on Tuesday and Wednesday.
