Everyone expected it to be close and the four top teams in the region proved the crowd right Saturday as the Carson Senators held on to claim the team regional championship.

There had been much speculation as to who would pull out on top, but Carson took two individual championships (Kyle Banko, 130 pounds and Travis Lamborn, 160 pounds) and qualified seven individuals for the state championships.

Douglas was right on Carson's heels, taking second with 175.5 points. Tony Ferris (171 pounds) and Sean Molina (189) emerged as regional champions. It was the first trip to the top of the podium for each.

Ferris defeated Damonte Ranch's Micah Chalk 12-9 to take the title and Molina upset South Tahoe's Miles Wallace 8-7 for his title.

The Tigers had six total individuals qualify for state with Jake Williams, Ryan Pruitt and Devin Barker each taking silver medals and Garrett Hekhuis taking third in the 112-pound division.

Damonte Ranch came in third as a team with 172.5 points and Fallon followed in fourth with 144.

The Nevada State 4A Championships are this weekend at Spanish Springs High School.

The Coleville girls regained sole possession of first place in the Western 1A League over the weekend with wins over Gerlach and Pyramid Lake.

Coleville picked up a 35-26 win over Gerlach Friday night getting 13 points each fron Amara Rowley and Kimberly Torley.

The Lady Wolves closed out their home season Saturday with a 59-42 win over Pyramid Lake. Rowley had 23 points and 12 rebounds in that matchup while Torley had 16 points.
