The community is invited to join together for a "Chili for Children" fundraiser on Feb. 18 to benefit the Carson Valley Children's Center. The event will be held at the CVIC Hall, 1602 Esmeralda Ave. in Minden, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event celebrates a good cause with food, fun and live music.
Local band Roaddaddy will provide the entertainment, with a repertoire of classic rock music.
The ticket donation for Chili for Children is $10 for adults and children younger than 12 are free. Each paid adult ticket includes a souvenir chili mug and an entry in the grand prize drawing for a family weekend at Disneyland including airfare and hotel. A lunch of homemade chili, cornbread and dessert will be offered. Choose from traditional beef chili, vegetarian chili or chicken and white bean chili. Adult beverages will be available for purchase. There will also be a raffle with 15 prizes. Purchase tickets in advance by calling Vicky Sauer-Lamb at 782-9809. Tickets will also be available at the door.
This is the perfect occasion to teach children the lifelong gift of community service. Participation helps galvanize the community and reinforces the spirit of Carson Valley residents. All of the money raised at "Chili for Children" will be used to operate the non-profit Carson Valley Children's Center currently under construction in north Douglas County. This beautiful 5,382 square-foot residence is named "Austin's House" as a tribute to Austin Kirby. Completion is scheduled for late spring.
