Take a bow, honor band and choir

Students in honor choir and band at Douglas and Whittell high schools and Pau-Wa-Lu, Carson Valley and Kingsbury middle schools met Monday afternoon at Dayton High School to rehearse with several other area schools for a concert at Douglas High School Thursday night.

Students belonging to the 2007 Northern Zone Nevada Music Educators Association, earned their status as in honor choir, band or jazz band through an audition held in November.

"You have to audition. If they're the best, they'll be able to participate," said Douglas High band and choir instructor Bill Zabelsky.

Twenty-seven students from the Douglas High School music department and 10 Whittell students earned that honor and will participate in the NZNMEA concert, 7:30 p.m. in the Douglas High School commons.

Students in the NZNMEA Honor Band at DHS are: Caleb Brown, Brandi Graves, Kyle Hewit, Daniel Hyden, Lindsey Jones, James LaChew, Andrew Martin, Michaelyn McElhiney, Katie Nicholson, Jason Rogers, Ryan Sipko and Bobby Stiehler.

Students in the NZNMEA Honor Band at WHS are: Lauren Andrew, Joan Browne, Willis Hughes and Allen McLeod.

Students in the NZNMEA Honor Choir at DHS are: David Bowen, Caleb Brown, Kristin Cobb, Desiree Davis, Angela Galgano, James Goodwin, Nick Granger, Teddi Griffin, Dane Hedlund, Kyle Hewit, Nate Homestead, Rachel Jackson, John Lindsey, Scott Maxwell, Katie Nicholson, Jessica Reynolds, Alice Sady and Bobby Stiehler.

Students in the NZNMEA Honor Choir at WHS are: Joan Browne, Sirena Mesa, Sarah Erler, Kyle Kjer, Bryce Rafferty and Travis Swoger.

Students in the NZNMEA Honor Jazz Band at DHS are: Brian Anderson, Andrew Martin and Jason Rogers.

The commons will be filled with the sounds of music with about 20 schools represented by their honor choirs and bands.

Other schools participating in the performance Thursday night are: Carson, Churchill, Dayton, Fernley, Mineral County, Pershing County, Silver Stage, Smith Valley, Virginia City and Yerington high schools; and Churchhill County Junior High, Carson Middle School, Dayton Intermediate, Eagle Valley Middle School, Fernley Intermediate, Hawthorne Junior High, Silver Stage Middle School, Yerington Intermediate and Virginia City Middle School.

Honor choir and band members from all the schools are attending all-day rehearsals today and Thursday at Douglas High School, in order to prepare for the concert.
