A search for a missing Reno Air Race pilot will resume this morning after being called off last night due to darkness and weather. Steve Brown, 51 took off from Carson City in his biplane Tonopah Low 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. According to news reports, he told friends he was going to fly the Carson River. Searchers were called out Wednesday when Brown did not return to Carson. Checks have been made at regional airports. The Tonopah Low is a black and yellow racing aircraft. Anyone spotting the aircraft is asked to contact the Carson City Sheriff's Department at 887-2007.
We expected a drizzle and what we got was fizzle. And yet, the National Weather Service is ever optimistic, reporting the chance of precipitations for rain today, tonight and Saturday. The East Fork Fire and Weather Report on the other hand is calling for scattered showers with isolated showers in the afternoon, which after looking outside appears to be more likely. As near as we can tell, not one drop of moisture fell in Carson Valley on Wednesday.
Road conditions this morning are pretty good with chains or snow tires required over Mount Rose Highway as usual and additional road controls over the passes into California. Kingsbury and Highway 50 and Highway 395 are clear, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation.
Work on Church Street and Wildrose Drive looks like its wrapping up, though there are still some cones and signs along the way.
