A flag that was flown over the nation's capital was presented to fourth-grade students at Scarselli Elementary School by a representative from Sen. Harry Reid's office and members of the Lions Club on Thursday.

A dog that was lost and thought to be dead for two years was reunited with its owner from Lassen County, Calif. Slivers is a treeing Walker coonhound trained for hunting mountain lions.

Chili for Children takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18 at the CVIC Hall in Minden. It is an event that benefits the Carson Valley Children's Center " Austin's House, a safe-house currently under construction for children to spend a short time at before a foster home or placement with a relative. The event includes live music by Roaddaddy, three types of chili, a raffle and more. The cost is $10 for adults, children younger than 12 free, with tickets available at the door. Poetry Out Loud is a national program funded by the National Endowment for the Arts. Students at Douglas High School will participate in a poetry reading competition at 3:15 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23 at the school. Happy rhyming!

Girl Scout World Thinking Day 2007 will take place 6:30-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23 at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church. At last year's event, 21 troops represented eight countries. Each booth had samples of food and demonstrated games and songs from a country of their choosing.
