Carson Valley is under a wind advisory starting at 8 a.m. today and lasting through 6 p.m. Thursday. Southwest winds will increase this morning to 20-30 mph with gusts of up to 55 mph. Sheltered areas will see a brief respite, according to the National Weather Service, but winds will pick back up Thursday morning along with the cold front. A wind advisory means gusts of 45 mph are expected that can make driving difficult, especially for high- profile vehicles along north south routes on Highway 395.. In other words, leave the camper at home today.

There's only a slight chance of moisture today but that will climb tonight to a 60 percent chance of rain. On Thursday, the Weather Service is predicting an 80 percent chance of up to an inch of snow in the valleys with winds blowing 21-47 mph. The temperature at 6:18 a.m. is 46 degrees in Genoa and in the Gardnerville Ranchos. Winds are blowing at about 20 mph. There are no road controls, but guess what, there's a high wind warning through Washoe Valley.

Today is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Eagles and Agriculture. Bet you though I was going to say Lent. The thing is all booked up and it looks like the weather will clear in time for the main events on Saturday. This morning the locals tour will be scouring the Valley for eagles. The weather picture for Lent is a little beyond my scope.
