An 18-year-old San Jose man was jailed on $250,000 bail Wednesday, charged with sexual assault.

Aurelio Zuniga Cardenas was arrested in Santa Clara County, Calif., and extradited to Douglas County Jail.

According to the criminal complaint filed against Cardenas, the assault allegedly occurred in August and September.

Details of the incident were sealed.

Last November, Cardenas was arrested at the Rite of Passage facility on East Valley Road in the Johnson Lane area for battery after residents accused him of slapping them and punching them and using gang intimidation to control them.

One of the complainants said they didn't report the alleged beatings earlier because they were afraid of the 6-foot-tall, 250-pound Cardenas.

The suspect was removed from Rite of Passage and taken to a juvenile detention facility in Santa Clara County.

Rite of Passage, headquartered in Minden, is a residential treatment and counseling program for at-risk teenagers.
