Greater Nevada Credit Union will present the third annual MEFIYI Community Choice Youth Awards Banquet this year at Genoa Lakes Golf Club at 6 p.m., May 31.
The event honors outstanding youth of Douglas County from ages 9 to 18 in the combined areas of academic excellence (minimum 3.0 GPA), athletic committment (individual or team sports that include cheerleading, dance, martial arts and other competitive recreational activities) and community service.
Two Greater Nevada Credit Union $500 education scholarships will be awarded to outstanding senior male and female athletes.
The event is also supported by NFL Charities, the Robert Z. Hawkins Foundation, The Record-Courier and the Robert R. Banks Foundation.
Proceeds will benefit both MEFIYI and local Carson Valley youth programs.
Organizers are hoping to have a satellite location open in the Gardnerville Ranchos this summer.
Last year, 56 athletes were honored at the banquet, which drew an attendance of 240.
Fully-completed applications require two letters of recommendations for the athletic and community service requirements.
To fulfill the scholastic requirement, a copy of a recent school progress report or a report card will be needed.
