Snow falling in Genoa

Snow has been falling in Genoa faster than an inch an hour. It started sticking at about 5 p.m. and by 9:30 p.m. there are six inches on the ground.

Heavy snow knocked down power lines near Cowboys & Angels Spalon at about 8:45 p.m. knocking power out in places and causing a brown-out in the rest of the town.

The Nevada Highway Patrol is assisting motorists stuck on Spooner Summit. Chains or snow tires are required on Highway 50 from Carson City to Kingsbury and over the pass.

Highway 50 is closed over Echo Summit. Interstate 80 is closed at the Nevada state line.

Highway 88 is open with mandatory chain requirements.
