The R-C Morning Report

Electricity was out along the west side of Carson Valley for about four hours early this morning as heavy snow knocked out a power line in Genoa. Of the 3-7 inches predicted for the Valleys in this latest snow storm, Genoa got all 7 and maybe a smidge more.

Power was out on the west side of Carson City, as well. Reports were a transformer was sparking in the capital.

Road controls are in effect for area highways, including highways 395, 88 and 50.

Snow tires or chains are required from South Lake Tahoe to Carson City on Highway 50. Similar controls affect Highway 88 through Woodfords to west of Pickets Junction, where chains are mandatory to get across the pass. Snow tires or chains are required over Kingsbury Grade and on Highway 207 from Holbrook Junction to Wellington.

For being as snowy as it is, there is at present only one Douglas County listing on the Nevada Highway Patrol's incident Web site, a motorist assist at 5:29 a.m. at Highway 395 and Jake's Hill in Carson Valley. Slick roads will be the rule this morning, not the exception, so take care out there. By the way, Heavenly Ski Resort is reporting 4 feet of new powder this morning.

Douglas County commissioners have scheduled a joint meeting 6 p.m. Thursday with the planning commission to discuss and perhaps act on the first reading of a growth management ordinance. Ordinance 2007-1199 will be up for a first reading and we'll get to see what the plans are for the county's future. The joint meeting will be held in the CVIC Hall.
