Life is good

Oh, what a life! It's Tuesday, and I woke up this morning to see beautiful white, deep snow. I ran all around inside the house opening up all the shades so I could see the dramatic views surrounding our home. It's "picture perfect" and I think I'll put a snow picture in our next Christmas letter.

We've got about 8 to 10 inches of fresh snow from last night's blizzard. It was wicked weather all right. The strong winds blew the snow sideways. My husband is outside right now shoveling the soft snow off our deck and long driveway. Clyde, our cat, hangs out with him where ever he goes, and I'm sitting at the dining table next to two south-facing sunny windows. Every minute or so a big chunk of snow roars as it comes sliding off our steep, two-story roof, and I've got the perfect view of it. I see my scarecrow that's sitting in a chair that's buried in snow. The sky is totally bright blue with no wind and no clouds at all. Life is good ...

Our house is toasty warm as we keep wood burning in the large cast iron stove. And what's on top of the wood stove? A big cast iron kettle full of all kinds and colors of beans. Norbert's in charge of the beans and I'll make the cracked wheat homemade bread in the bread machine. There are two pairs of authentic snowshoes hanging on the living room wall. They are not only decorative, but they're practical too. We just might want to use those today.

I called our daughter Christy to see how she's doing in the snowstorm up in Lake Tahoe. She had 3-feet of snow to shovel from her driveway and make it to work by 5 a.m. Christy is the transportation supervisor for the South Lake Tahoe School District. Part of her job is to make the radio announcements that "school is closed today." She said she hoped her Spanish was OK so the kids don't come to school today.

I've got to stop writing now so I can go for a walk in the snow while it's still so fluffy. We'll make the first tracks down our dirt road and I'll take some pictures, and hopefully we'll see the seven wild horses that hang-out around here. It's 10 a.m., time for my Yoga class, but I can't get out of Fish Springs. Oh well, life's tough.
