The East Fork Fire & Paramedic Districts agreement with Carson City won the 2007 Cashman Good Government Award. The two fire departments have a boundary drop zone at the Douglas Carson line where either can respond to emergencies in the other's jurisdiction based on available staff.
Big George Ventures donated $120,000 to Carson Valley Middle School to purchase laptop computers and software. The Minden company founded by former Google engineer Raymond Sidney has has made several large donations to public facilities including the Douglas High School sports facility. The company donated an additional $450,000 for a fence, infrared security cameras, additional pole-vault and long jump venues and a new scoreboard.
Grants are available for the training of employees of companies with 10 or more workers through the Nevada Commission on Economic Development. Dozens of businesses apply for $1 million in Train Employee Now funds each year.
