Meeting week continues today with Minden Town Board, the airport advisory committee and the Gardnerville Ranchos General Improvement District.
A request for a grant from the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra to use the CVIC Hall for rehearsal and as a venue and Harold Willard will be asking for compensation for damage done to the Drug Abuse is Life Abuse sign allegedly by Minden workers will be before the town board starting at 6 p.m.
A plan to require large aircraft to get prior permission for a year to determine how many they are will be before the Minden-Tahoe Airport Advisory Committee at 6 p.m.
Ranchos board members will also meet at 6 p.m. Among the items on their agenda are a discussion of recreation projects and locations in the coming year.
It's already breezy this morning, which does not bode well for this evening, when oddly enough also at 6 p.m., a high wind advisory kicks in. Gusty winds will kick up this afternoon and increase through the night. The warning will last until 4 a.m. Thursday. Winds of 25-35 mph are expected, with gusts of up to 60 mph in wind prone regions.
That's nothing compared to last week where R-C weather watcher George Uebele recorded a 90 mph gust. That was before flying shingles broke his wind cups. Hopefully, this won't quite be the nightmare after Christmas last week was.
It's warm out there, with a temperature before sunrise of 41 degrees. The high today is expected to hit 55. Thursday's weather is supposed to be wet. The Weather Service has backed off from the 5 inches of snow, but they're still betting on a 90 percent chance of precipitation. Now they're saying rain and then a little snow.
Road construction on Highway 395 between Johnson Lane and Stephanie Way is supposed to have the road down to two lanes today. According to the Nevada Department of Transportation Web site, construction will be from just north of Johnson to 1 mile north of Stephanie. They are working on the traffic signal for Stephanie Way.
