Baseball: Estes re-signs with Padres

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, 1991 Douglas High graduate Shawn Estes accepted a minor league contract with the San Diego Padres Friday.

The 33-year-old left-hander coudl become the Padres' No. 5 pitcher after the All-Star break, when he is expected to return from Tommy John elbow-reconstruction surgery.

Estes underwent elbow surgery on June 7 last year.

He has a career record of 99-90 in 273 starts and has a 4.71 ERA.
