Riverwood developer Jay Timon antied up $4.3 million in the Douglas County real estate game. Timon completed purchase of three parcels of north county land late last week, including the 4.8 acres owned by Jim McCowan and Kay Capurro and covered under Timon's redevelopment agreement with Douglas County. According to the Douglas County Assessor's Office Web site, Timon paid McCowan and Capurro $3.35 million for the land which county officials hope will become the seed from which a ton of sales tax grows. Timon, through Riverwood Partners of Reno, a different entity, also purchased a 2.6-acre lot from the Huntzinger Family Trust for $950,000. The lot is located on the east side of Highway 395 south of the other two lots .

Some famous people will be coming through Carson Valley this month. On Wednesday when the Sierra Nevada Republican Women will host newspaper columnist and commentator Jon Ralston noon at Two Guys From Italy. Ralston's columns appear in a half dozen newspapers around the state. Reservations need to be made with Diane Gordon by noon today. Call 265-2841 for more information. At 7 p.m. Thursday, the Republican Central Committee will recap the 2006 election with longtime Nevada political pundit Chuck Muth. The committee meets in Judge Michael Gibbons' chambers. Douglas County Democrats plan on bringing in the big guns later this month when they will host potential presidential hopefuls Gen. Wesley Clark and New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson on Jan. 27 at the Carson Valley Inn. For more information, contact Bud Orange at 721-7530.

Time to corral the lawn furniture again. The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for Wednesday morning through the afternoon as another storm slams into the Carson Valley. Forecasters are suggesting folks secure loose objects or bring them indoors. If you're out in the desert watch for blowing dust, gusts of up to 60 mph are predicted. All this wind is supposed to be blowing in a new storm. There's a 50 percent of snow showers on Wednesday and a 40 percent chance for up to 1 inch of snow to accumulate on Thursday.
