The 4th Degree Sierra Assembly of the Knights of Columbus is planning a cioppino dinner on Feb. 17 at the St. Gall Pastoral Center.
The fish stew dinner revives a tradition established in the 1960s by the Pagni family.
The Pagnis operated an Italian restaurant in Pleasant Valley called The Jubilee Club located just at the bottom of the hill on the left at the entrance to Pleasant Valley on Highway 395.
The Pagni brothers were building contractors and working on an addition to the Gardnerville Elementary School. Each day they would go to the Pyrenees Hotel for lunch. The Pyrenees (now the Aladdin Flower shop) was owned by Joe and Jeanne Micheo.
Al Pagni and the Micheos soon became very good friends. Pagni offered to put on a cioppino dinner at the Pyrenees and have the Micheos invite their friends. This tradition lasted for a few years and was greatly enjoyed.
The Knights would like to recreate that dinner on Feb. 17 with a no-host bar beginning at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m.
Along with the cioppino, there will be salad and French bread.
The cost is $25 per person. Tickets must be purchased by Feb. 12.

The 4th Degree assembly makes annual contributions to the armed forces and will distribute profits to this cause.
