You know it's time to break out the long underwear when the low temperature this morning is 7 degrees up on the bench and that isn't as cold as it's going to get. Today's high temperature will climb to 22 degrees and tonight's low will drop to the big goose egg. Careful navigating both on wheels and on foot. Expect lots of fire calls today as pipes begin to thaw after freezing and burst.

Snow tires or chains are being required on Highway 395 south of Stephanie Way down to nearly Bridgeport. Highways 208 and 50 are also yellow on the big map. Remember how slick it was on your way home last night? Well it's just as slick now. Kingsbury on the other had is open with no controls. Go figure.

The Nevada Highway Patrol is responding to a property damage accident at Kimmerling Road and Country that was reported at 6:16 a.m.

I'm on vacation, so I spent three or four hours on Thursday just watching the snow fall, when a hawk perched on our fence with a mouse. This is what I got with the video camera through our back window.

The college soon to formerly be known as Western Nevada Community will be hosting an orientation and open house at Bently Hall in Minden from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. They're serving lunch, giving tours of the campus and having a meet and greet for students, faculty and students. The college is located at 1680 Bently Parkway.
