The Douglas High School ski team came in a solid third as a team Wednesday at Heavenly and the Tiger girls fell just short of a second-place finish, settling for fourth behind Truckee, South Tahoe and North Tahoe.

Freshman Hillary Sapp rocketed down the giant slalom course with times of 28.06 and 28.69 to post the fastest time of any of the Douglas racers on the day and take fifth in the girls' race.

Crystal Rutledge took 15th with a combined time of 1:00.51, Jennifer Stice took 21st with a time of 1:05.36 and Avery Carrig took 22nd with a time of 1:06.04.

Rounding out the girls' varsity was Kristin Lovell (28th, 1:09.94), Alicia Dreyer (30th, 1:12.50), Jenna Dykes (31st, 1:14.45) and Danielle Kochen (34th, 1:16.94).

"The girls did really well," Douglas coach Rob Parks said. "The race for second place was really close, but we fell a few points short behind South and North Tahoe."

In the boys' race, freshman Anton Anger had a strong first run with a time of 27.84, putting him in sixth heading into the afternoon.

He took a hard fall on his second run, which disqualified his times on the day.

The Tigers took another hit when Charlie Cross, who'd also had a strong first run with a time of 32.94, fell on the second run.

Michael Barnes ended up posting the top varsity time with a combined 1:04.18, but junior varsity racer Andrew Solomon had the boys' best time of the day with a 1:00.77. He won the junior varsity race with that time.

Kyle Neddenreip took 25th in the varsity race (1:04.51), followed by Mackenzie Bennington (27th, 1:05.44), Brian Sergott (28th, 1:05.67), Alex Ristorcelli (31st, 1:11.15) and Joey Gmuender (38th, 1:18.16).

Following Solomon in the junior varsity race were Eric Dugan (10th, 1:08.28), Kevin Sacherman (11th, 1:09.30), Darren Vega (17th, 1:12.21), Nick Campagna (22nd, 1:17.94) and Cody Burkhauser (26th, 1:28.68). Craig Swartz and Teddy Williams each finished their first runs but were unable to finish the second.
