Calling all Johnson Lane residents

We need to protect the children of Johnson Lane from methamphetamine. Did you watch the special on all the networks last week called "Crystal Darkness?" I am a mother of four children, and I don't want meth even close to where my children can be exposed. Our children are our future. Right here in Johnson Lane, in our own back yard, there was a big drug bust at 2861 East Valley Road on Jan. 10.

What can you do? This is what I say: Watch your neighborhood houses. Look for suspicious cars. Look for larger quantities of traffic going in and out of a single residence all hours of the day and night. More likely than not, it will be a rental house that is used. Do you smell an unusual smell? Call the sheriff, they will watch the house and take action.

It is our responsibility to the children to keep this harmful epidemic away from Johnson Lane, it's our duty.

On Jan. 25 at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane in Gardnerville, Dr. Melissa Piasecki who is an associate professor of psychiatry at the University Of Nevada School Of Medicine will host a special, "Methamphetamine - Your Body, Your Brain." It's from 6-7:30 p.m. and there will be free baby-sitting and light snacks and refreshments. You may call the Partnership of Community Resources for more information at 782-8611.

I.C.E.

Do you have I.C.E. in your cell phone? I am new to cell phones. I used to have a pay-as-you-go phone, but I didn't get reception in the areas I felt, maybe, I might need a phone - Sonora Pass turn off on Highway 395, Hope Valley, Kirkwood Ski Resort. But, recently I joined the ranks and purchased a family plan for myself, my sister and my parents. My sister set up the phone for my parents and myself, and she said don't forget I.C.E.

I.C.E., (In Case of Emergency), is when you program emergency contacts in your phone. Let's just say on the icy roads you slide off into the ditch. Sure, the guy behind you will call 911 and the fire engine will come, but in the meantime, if you were unconscious, that guy could look in your cell phone and call your emergency contact numbers and let them know what's happening to you. You can list as many emergency numbers as you think you might need. So, I.C.E. your cell phone, your loved ones will appreciate it.
