Since my entire computer experience had been with dial-up internet connections, I had gotten used to nothing happening with any speed on my computer. It has been total culture shock for me to see what having wireless service is like. When I turn the computer on, right then it's ready to do whatever program I want. I'm really having a ball with it, for a change. The installer of the new system, Larry Offenstein, who lives in Topaz Ranch Estates, was so helpful and got everything set up so quickly that it was painless for me. If you're interested in finding out more about it, in our area you can call Larry at 266-3978 for information, sales or service. Also, please note that lynnekat@schat.net is my new e-mail address.

Antelope Valley Fire Department's "5 Year Plan Committee" is meeting 6:30 tonight at the Walker Fire Station. They welcome public input regarding the needs of our district, both for now and in the coming times.
This and that
n Antelope Elementary School's Parent Teacher Organization is awarding a new bike and helmet to the students of the trimester as selected by all school personnel. There is one winner from elementary and one from middle school. The winners for the first trimester were Alexis Williford (middle) and Nestor Vera (elementary). Congratulations to both of them.
n Coleville High boys and girls basketball season has started again, after the holiday break. They'll play Smith Valley at Coleville this Friday. Win or lose, the games are a lot of fun to attend, and I know the kids appreciate our support.
n "Cold snap" isn't the right phrase to describe what we've been experiencing lately. It went beyond that on the first day. It's so pretty when you're looking out the window, but it's sure a bear if you're outside. I have a ton of respect for all the people like our ranchers, mail carriers and others, whose work takes them out there no matter what the conditions. We also have to remember our pets at this time of year. Be sure they have water and shelter available, especially at night. I know of several people whose house pipes froze, even though they had tried to take precautions; but so far none of those I know have had any that burst. Hope you were as lucky.
Stay warm.
