Coins, jewelry stolen from Ranchos home

A Gardnerville Ranchos woman and her daughter are searching for the people who took $40,000 in antique jewelry and rare coins.

Muir Drive resident Sharyon Katsaris is hoping someone spotted whoever broke into her home and took the items.

Katsaris' daughter, Heather Kluever spent Tuesday faxing descriptions of the stolen items, which include 96 Carson City minted Morgan coins, to area pawn shops.

Kluever said someone broke into her mother's home at 1498 Muir Drive through the back door.

"Based on the footprints we found in the snow, it looks like the same person jumped over the fence and broke the back door down."

Kluever said it appears that whoever took the items knew where they were kept, as they ignored electronics and went to Katsaris' bedroom door, knocking it down and finding the safe.

"We definitely think it is someone who has been to the house," Kluever said. "She kept the jewelry in a big metal safe and somehow they broke the door right off."

The incident occurred sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Monday.

Besides the coins, items included a white gold diamond wrist watch, pearl necklace and earrings, Donna Karan watches, gold necklaces, wedding bands and other rings, white gold jade and gold bracelet with a buffed appearance and other items.

Kluever said she believed the items were being sold now.
