The Holder Hospitality Group announced Monday the appointment of long-time Carson Valley resident Bernie Curtis as the new General Manager of Sharkey's Casino in Gardnerville.
Curtis was a Douglas County Sheriff's deputy from 1972 until his resignation in 1994 after achieving the rank of undersheriff. While with the sheriff's office, Curtis graduated from the FBI Academy in Quantico, Va.
He went on to serve two 4-year terms as a Douglas County commissioner, starting in 1996. The Holder Hospitality Group retained Curtis in 2002 to be their director of government relations. He successfully held that position until his departure in early 2006 to become the Undersheriff of Elko County. During his time in Elko, Holder Hospitality called upon his expertise on numerous occasions to consult on various projects.
"We are pleased to have Bernie back with us, especially in a property as important as Sharkey's" said Holder Hospitality Chairman Harold D. Holder Sr. "We have many plans for Sharkey's and Bernie will play a major part in accomplishing our goals."
Curtis said he hoped to build on the Sharkey's legend.
"I hope to be working with the community to build on the foundations that have made this property a landmark," he said. "We want to add to the gaming and dining experience along with growing and improving the Sharkey's legend".
Originally from the east coast, Curtis came to Nevada in the late 1950s and calls Fish Springs home. He and Linda, his wife of 22 years, are extremely happy to be back among all of their friends and will be returning to their home in Fish Springs.
