'Little Miss' contestants sought

The Little Miss Douglas County Pageant will take place Feb.16-17 at Dance Workshop Performing Arts Center, 1697 County Road, in Minden. The pageant will be hosted by the Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department, 782-9828 and the Dance Workshop, 782-8717.


Sign up for the pageant at Douglas County Parks & Recreation, 1327 Waterloo Road, across from Lampe Park, or call 782-9828 for information. All entries must be at the Dance Workshop by noon Feb. 15 in order to participate.


This pageant will be an opportunity for girls in Douglas County and surrounding areas to gain confidence and show off their favorite talent. Pageants are fun, positive competitions with gifts and prizes for all contestants. All contestants will compete within their age group for the following titles:


On Friday, Feb.16 at 6 p.m. will be Petite Miss first-third grade, the Little Miss fourth-sixth grade and Junior Miss seventh-ninth grade followed by Teen Miss 10th-11th grade.


On Saturday, Feb. 17, 9 a.m. will be the Baby Miss: 6 months-23 months old, the Wee Miss: 2 years-3 years and the Tiny Miss: 4 years-5 years old.


The pageant will be a three-phase competition where the entrants will have an opportunity to show off their best party dress, demonstrate their favorite talent, and talk to a panel of judges. The contestants will be judged on personality, poise, speaking ability, eye contact, neatness, dress and talent. Baby, Wee, and Tiny Miss will compete in party dress only.


All contestants will also have the opportunity to submit photos for the Miss Photogenic contest. Winners will receive $25 and a tiara. Categories for the awards will be the same as the pageant. Photos may be any size up to 8-by-10-inches. Contestants for Miss Photogenic are not required to enter the Little Miss Douglas County Pageant. Photos and entry fee of $25 must be received by Feb. 10 at the Dance Workshop.


Each girl is encouraged to have fun, meet new friends, and enjoy a new experience. All contestants will receive a gift. The winner in each division will receive a tiara, banner and flowers. A pre-pageant meeting and walk-through will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Dance Workshop. The cost to enter the pageant is $45 plus $10 pageant admission fee.
