After 14 months of legal maneuvering, the trial of accused bank robber Steven Simmons is scheduled to begin today. Jury selection is this morning to determine if Simmons, 27, is the man who robbed the Minden Bank of America just before Thanksgiving 2005. The trial is expected to last through the week.

Genoans are meeting 6:30 tonight to potentially authorize emergency repairs to the town church after the furnace broke down last week. Without the heat, water pipes for the bathroom and sprinkler system froze solid. The furnace was fixed as an emergency measure and the town board will be asked to pay the bill tonight. Also repairs to the water systems is on the agenda.

Occupants of the Midtown Plaza got their water back on Monday after their pipes froze last week. The pipes had to be dug up to thaw.

Also at 6:30 p.m. is the traffic meeting on Highway 395 from Clearview Avenue to Highway 88. The meeting is being held at Jacks Valley Elementary School on Jacks Valley Road by the Nevada Department of Transportation.

Speaking of traffic, I'm betting they will still be working on the sewer line at Highway 395 and Church Street in Gardnerville today. The southbound lanes of the highway were down to one lane on Monday, so keep an eye out.

Douglas High School students will be taking finals Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and will be released from school at 11:33 a.m. on those days. After this week, the class of 2007 will be down to one semester.

After two weeks of the same weather forecast, there's the slightest chance we might get some precipitation by the end of the week. The National Weather Service is predicting that it will warm up to the high 40s and that a weak low pressure system may encroach into the Valley by Thursday bringing with it a 10 percent chance of moisture or at the very least some breezes to clear the inversion out. The high today should hit 48. The overnight low will be 11. It is 11 degrees in Genoa.
