Weldon (Ray) Allsip
1946-2007
A celebration of life will be noon Saturday at the Bently Science Park in Minden for Weldon (Ray) Allsip, 60, who died Jan. 22, 2007, in Carson City.
Mr. Allsip was born Dec. 10, 1946, in Garvey, Calif., to Dane Irvine and Marie Allsip. He graduated from Pacifica High School in 1965. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1968 and married Vernalou (Kay) Colton, March 13, 1969. He is a 20-year resident of Gardnerville having moved here from South Lake Tahoe. He was the first Punt, Pass and Kick Champion in Oakland, Calif. He loved baseball, fishing companion Sugar and most of all, his entire family.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Kay Allsip of Gardnerville, two daughters Shannon and her husband Phil Trella of South Lake Tahoe and Cyndie and her husband Jake Munoz of Gardnerville; his brother Hayward (Duane) Allsip; six grandchildren Shane, Phillip, Chandler, Hannah, Vance and Liberty as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Arrangements are in the care of Walton's Douglas County Mortuary in Minden. Cremation to take place at Walton's Sierra Crematory in Carson City. Memorial donations can be made in his name to the Carson Valley Little League or the humane society.
Victoria Urionaguena Hellwinkel
1930-2007
Services will be 10 a.m. today at St. Gall Catholic Church for Victoria Urionaguena Hellwinkel, 76, who died Jan. 22, 2007 in Carson City.
Mrs. Hellwinkel was born Nov. 28, 1930 in Susanville, Calif. to Victor and Clara Urionaguena. She attended school in Lassen County and the University of California, Davis. She married Kenneth W. Hellwinkel March 21, 1954 in Reno and the couple were life long residents of the Carson Valley engaging in ranching and construction. She was very active in 4-H, a life long member of Douglas County Farm Bureau, Nevada Cattle Women (Cowbelles) and a Native Daughter of the Golden West.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Jess. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth W. Hellwinkel, her daughter Francis Pedroarena of Carson Valley; her son Ken Hellwinkel of Trenton, Idaho and her two grandchildren Kendra and Kale of Bozeman, Mont.
Arrangements are in the care of Walton's Douglas County Mortuary, Minden. There will be a private family viewing before the service. Burial with graveside services will take place at the Fredricksberg Cemetery in Fredricksberg, Calif. A reception will follow at the church after the graveside service.
Wilhelm Hoppe
1929-2007
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City for Wilhelm Hoppe, 77, who died Jan. 23, 2007.
Mr. Hoppe was born Sept. 22, 1929, in Germany. He moved to the United States in 1959 and began his career at the Beverly Hills Hotel. He was trained in Germany as a pastry chef and served as the maitre d' for 10 years at the Elegant Farmer in Oakland, Calif. Later he owned and operated Van's Bakery in San Lorenzo. He married Elke Kiesserling in 1969 and they lived in Oakland, Lake Tahoe and then moved to Carson Valley.
Mr. Hoppe was preceded in death by his wife, Elke in 2003. He is survived by his son, Thomas Hoppe; brother and sister-in-law, Hans and Ilse Hoppe and sister Frieda.
Arrangements are in the care of Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City.
Charlene Rooney
1924-2007
A memorial Mass for Gardnerville resident Charlene Rooney, 82, was Wednesday at St. Gall Catholic Church. Mrs. Rooney died Jan. 21, 2007, in Carson City.
Mrs. Rooney was born on Feb. 27, 1924, in Ontario, Calif. She married Donald Rooney in 1944 and the couple raised their three children. In 1960, the Rooneys settled in Napa, Calif., where the couple lived for 44 years before moving to Gardnerville to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Although Mrs. Rooney worked for many years, the center of her life was her family and friends. She was dedicated to her husband and children and loved them deeply.
Mrs. Rooney's interests included bridge, square dancing, sewing, knitting, baking and she loved to travel. She volunteered her time for many years serving the Cancer Society through the Discovery Shop in Napa, Calif,. She was a former member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church.
Mrs. Rooney is survived by her husband of 62 years Donald of Gardnerville; children Kathleen Fitzpatrick of Whittier, Calif., Michael Rooney of Austin, Texas, and Richard Rooney of Gardnerville; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and two sisters.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Rooney's memory in lieu of flowers to direct them to the Alzheimer's Association or to Vista Care Hospice.

Mary A. White
1908-2007
A graveside service is 11 a.m. Monday for Mary A. White, a Gardnerville resident for the past 1 1/2 years, who died at her home on Jan. 19, 2007, she had just turned 99 years old on Jan. 1. The service will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Montebello, Calif.
Born Jan. 1, 1908, in San Gabriel, Calif., to Manual and Carmen Verdugo, she and husband Steve built a home in Alhambra, Calif., in the early 1940s.
Mr. White played in a band for many years, and she worked as a seamstress until she retired. She traveled a lot and had many beautiful memories. Mrs. White enjoyed sewing, gardening, and entertaining her many friends. Mrs. White worked very hard in her yard to make it as beautiful as she could with all her flowers. She resided in California until July 2005 when she moved to Gardnerville to be closer to her granddaughter who helped take care of her.
Mrs. White is survived by her son Ernest Verdugo of Carson City; sister Rosie Cobos of San Gabriel, Calif.; granddaughter Kathy Paresa of Gardnerville and many nieces and other family members from her home town in Southern California. Mrs. White was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters and brothers. Arrangements are in the care of Autumn Funerals & Cremations.
