The Douglas/Alpine Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans have elected their 2007 leadership board. The leadership board is responsible for managing and administering Thrivent Financial's Care Abounds in Communities chapter program in the Carson Valley. Through this program, Thrivent Financial adds financial support to volunteer projects and/or fundraising activities conducted by local Thrivent chapter members to benefit individuals, families and qualified nonprofit organizations and providing help to people in need in the community.

The incoming 2007 chapter leaders include: president, Richard Sheldrew; vice-president, Debbie Cowan; records director, Pearl Plummer; financial director August Bellas; congregational service team director, Joyce McCormack and Linda Reid as community service team leader.

In addition to the selection of the 2007 chapter leaders, The Douglas/Alpine Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans was selected as a 2006 Chapter of Excellence.

"Your chapter has exhibited all the qualities of an excellent chapter, utilizing grant dollars effectively, supporting congregational volunteer activities, communicating with congregational coordinators and local members as well as providing opportunities for service and fellowship to engage Lutherans and members with the surrounding communities and their needs," Sheilah Lynch, Lutheran Community Services Specialist for the Sierra Northwest Region, said. "We greatly value each of you and your dedicated leadership and it is because of your collaborated efforts that Thrivent Financial is able to multiply the good it does at the local level to help churches and communities."

"Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has a long history of reaching out to others," incoming president Richard Sheldrew said. "The leadership for 2007 will continue this great tradition and continue to help those in need."

There are 1,364 Thrivent Financial for Lutherans chapters throughout the country. The chapter system is responsible for an average of more than 250 activities per day throughout the country and $134 million per year in funds raised and donated by member volunteers.
