Despite a depleted roster, the Douglas ski team still managed a fifth-place team finish at Wednesday's slalom race at Heavenly.
"The results were not as good as the previous races because we only brought about half our team due to this race falling during finals week." Douglas coach Rob Parks said. "We made it clear that they are students first and then athletes and if they needed to stay home to study for finals and miss the race, then they should do so."
The Douglas girls finished fourth in their race with a score of 125 points while the boys took sixth with 60 points.
"With this being the first slalom race of the year, we had many skiers fall or miss gates, which hurt our chances of scoring higher as a team," Parks said.
Freshman Hillary Sapp took eighth overall with a combined time of 1:16.88 and Avery Carrig took 14th with a time of 1:26.00.
Jenna Dykes clocked a 1:37.96 to take 22nd, Crystal Rutledge was hampered by a fall on her first run but still took 27th with a 2:07.00.
Kristin Lovell took 28th.
On the boys' side, missed gates and falls cost the Tigers but Kevin Sacherman led the way with a 28th-place finish with a time of 1:35.89, Craig Swartz finished in 1:39.62 to take 29th and Cody Burkhauser took 30th with a 2:23.40.
