The submission deadline for Padgett Business Services Foundation Scholarship applications is quickly approaching. This program offers scholarships to dependents of small business owners. Lee Wendt, owner and operator of the local Padgett Business Services office, a financial reporting and tax consulting business, participates in the program by providing a $500 award for Douglas High School seniors.
The deadline for filing applications is March 1. However, arrangements must be made to verify the parent's/guardian's business information by Feb. 15. We encourage all eligible students to apply now.
Eligibility for the scholarship requires that the applicant be a high school senior who plans to attend an accredited, post-secondary institution. In addition, the parent or legal guardian of the applicant must be an active owner of at least 10 percent of the stock or capital in a business that employs fewer than 20 people.
The award will be based on the applicant's college aptitude test scores, high school grade-point averages, extracurricular activities, and educational and career plans. The winner of the local award will be announced in May.
This award is part of an international program in which the Padgett Business Services Foundation makes scholarships available throughout North America. Since 1990 over $800,000 in scholarships have been awarded. Each regional winner in Canada will become eligible for a Canada national scholarship of an additional $1,000. Each regional winner in the U.S. will become eligible for a U.S. national scholarship of an additional $1,000. The international scholarship of an additional $2,000 will be awarded to one of the two national winners.
Applications and may be obtained on the Internet at www.smallbizpros.com or by calling Lee Wendt at 782-5900.
