The winners of the humanitarian awards are chosen by popular vote and receive cash awards of up to $50,000 for their communities. • Creation of a county growth cap will be debated at a 6 p.m. Thursday joint meeting of Douglas County commissioners and members of the county planning commission. Both sets of commissioners will discuss the issue and take public comment, but no decision on the cap may be made. Page A1

• More than two dozen Douglas students were chosen as honor musicians by the Northern Zone Nevada Music Educators Association. • A 44-year-old man who walked away from a substance abuse treatment program before he was to be sent back to prison for felony driving under the influence was arrested Monday in Reno. Jeffrey McManus and Johanna Thomas, 42, were arrested at an apartment they were occupying. Page A2

• A 38-year-old Gardnerville woman was sentenced Jan. 22 to five years in prison for her part in the sale of 30 grams of methamphetamine to undercover officers. Page A3

• Gerry Bing Jr. was presented the Minden-Douglas Elks Lodge No. 2670 Citizen of the Year award on Saturday night. The Gardnerville Ranchos business owner has been involved in the community since he moved to Douglas County in 1963. Page B1

• The Senior Health Fair and Fashion Show is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Carson Valley Inn. Vendors from health and medical fields will be there to explain and distribute brochures on the subjects, and seniors will model fashions provided by Sidestreet Boutique in South Lake Tahoe. Page B1

• The Douglas High School wrestling team captured a share of the Sierra League title, concluding its season with a big win against Reno Friday. The Tigers, by virtue of an early-season loss to Carson and an early-season win over Damonte Ranch, were put in position for the three-way claim to the title when Damonte Ranch beat Carson later in the season. • The Douglas boys' basketball team ran away in the fourth quarter Saturday night, taking a 20-point win over Elko despite not having post players Keith Olson and Joe Nady due to injuries. Page C1
