Gardnerville's United States ski team hopeful Nick Cohee continued to prove he is one of the top juniors in the nation this past week, as he was just 0.11 seconds out of first place in the Rocky Mountain Trophy Series Super Giant Slalom, held at Beaver Creek Resort in Vail, Colo.

It the best speed result of Cohee's career, pushing him to the top of the national rankings in the event.

He is best known as a slalom and giant slalom skier, where he also ranks among the nation's best.

It was Cohee's sixth top-three result this season and 15th as a junior.

Cohee was clocked at speeds exceeding 55 miles per hour on the 1:20 course.

He next heads to Winter Park, Colo., and Taos, New Mexico for an important series of University races, competing against the top NCAA Division I skiers in the Western United States.

He will return home for a short break and training, then head to Jackson, Wyo. on Feb. 20.

Cohee is hoping to peak at the right time for the United States Alpine National Championships, featuring the entire U.S. Ski Team led by Bode Miller and Ted Ligety, which starts on March 29 in Alyeska, Ala.
