Staff Reports

There are 27 students from the Douglas High School music department who have made the status of honor musicians in the 2007 Northern Zone Nevada Music Educators Association concert band, choir and jazz band.

The Northern Zone honor band plays a concert 7:30 tonight at Churchill County High School in Fallon.

A chance to see the NZNMEA honor choir and jazz band is at a free concert, 7:30 p.m. Feb. 8 in the Douglas High School commons.

The Fighting Tiger band is still having the Adopt-A-Band Member fundraiser to pay for their trip to San Francisco to ring in the year of the boar at the Chinese New Year parade on March 3.

The community is asked to adopt a band member to raise the $8,000 needed to send the Douglas High School marching band and pageantry group to the event.

The cost to adopt one band member is $25. A whole section goes for $100. Anyone who donates to the cause will receive adoption papers and a photo of the adoptee.

The Pride of the Carson Valley band and pageantry will be part of the 100-unit parade that has been a tradition since the 1860s. Famous for firecrackers and the 200-foot Golden Dragon carried by more than 100 people, the night parade travels through the Market District to Chinatown.

The parade can be seen from 6-8 p.m. March 3 on KTVU Fox 2 or KTSF Channel 26.
