Josephine (Joyce) Clara Whitfield
1921-2007
A memorial service is 1 p.m. Saturday at Ross, Burke and Noble on Kietzke Lane in Reno for Joyce Whitfield, 85, a 50-year resident of Reno who died Jan. 24, 2007.
Mrs. Whitfield was born on Dec. 6, 1921, in Aberdeen, S.D., to Lena and Joseph LeMar. She was a homemaker and enjoyed writing song lyrics, fishing, hunting and spending time with her family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edward E. Whitfield, a well-known Reno general contractor, sister Florence Nichols, brothers Joseph and Patrick LeMar, and sons Dennis Lovelace and John Whitfield Jr.
She is survived by her son Richard Whitfield of Concord, Calif.; daughters Mary Ann Draper and her husband Mo, 25-year residents of Gardnerville who recently moved to Greenville, S.C.; and Dee Crawford-Ramsey and her husband, Lee of Carson City; granddaughters Darlene and Deborah Lovelace, Denise and Dawn Lovelace, Renee Snyder, Courtney Whitfield, Desiree York as well as grandsons Eddie and John Whitfield and many great-grandchildren.
The family expressed their thanks to the compassionate staff of Regent Care Center and to the St. Mary's Hospice Organization.
Arrangements are in the care of Ross, Burke and Noble Funeral Home in Reno. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
