A 39-year-old Gardnerville man was jailed Friday on $128,000 bail, accused of stabbing a man who came to the aid of woman trying to leave the suspect at the Coyote Bar.

David Earle Walmer was charged with battery with a deadly weapon and assault with a deadly weapon.

He was accused of stabbing the 35-year-old victim in the neck, chin, and left elbow when the man tried to pull him off the woman whom Walmer reportedly threatened to kill, according to reports.

The victim was treated at Carson Valley Medical Center by physicians who said the knife just missed the jugular vein.

The victim received five stitches in his neck and three on his elbow.

Deputies were called to the Coyote Bar and Grill just after 10 p.m. and told the victim left on foot.

Witnesses said Walmer appeared to be choking the 45-year-old woman who had met him at the bar, but decided to leave.

The altercation took place in the parking lot.

She got in her vehicle, locked the doors and rolled up the windows, and tried to drive away. According to reports, he convinced her to roll down a window to talk with him, then thrust the knife through the opening, telling her she would be dead before help arrived.

Three men tried to pull Walmer away from the woman which is when he reportedly stabbed the victim, then took off on foot toward Lampe Park.

Walmer was apprehended at the Toiyabe Avenue home of his ex-wife after a scuffle with deputies who ordered him to the ground at gunpoint.

Walmer is to appear in East Fork Justice Court on July 11.
