The Nevada Chapter of the March of Dimes raised a record-setting $14,000 during their Jail & Bail fundraiser held at the Carson Valley Inn on June 7, surpassing last year's mark by more than $3,000.
"Words cannot fully express how grateful we are for the efforts of the entire Carson Valley community," said Northern Division Director Priscilla Tran. "It is through the selfless contributions from folks like those in the Carson Valley community that make our efforts to improve the health of babies possible."
Among those who made contributions during Jail & Bail, the March of Dimes Ð Nevada Chapter would like to offer a special note of appreciation to Steve Coyne and son, Billy Coyne of Coyne Roofing, they set a record breaking jailbird bail of $2,500.
The number of babies born prematurely each year has increased by 30 percent since 1983.
In Nevada, 4,520 were born prematurely in 2003.
Some of those babies die; others face lifelong disability. The money raised by the March of Dimes supports research and programs to prevent premature births and to help families who experience it.
