The record high temperature for Minden fell on Wednesday when the mercury hit 107 degrees, according to Record-Courier weather watcher Stan Kapler.
The previous record for the day was 103 degrees set in 1991.
Another record, 100 degrees set July 5, 1981, was on the precipice on Thursday. The predicted high for the day was supposed to hit 105, according to the National Weather Service.
A record high temperature of 100 degrees for July 6, set in 1931, might be safe. The weather service is predicting temperatures will drop below the century mark today and stay there through the weekend.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Brian O'Hara said temperatures should cool down slightly over the next few days while a high pressure system over Western Nevada weakens.
"The high pressure is kind of weakening, but temperatures will still be above average through the next week," he said.
The weather service has issued a heat advisory through 7 p.m. today, with highs predicted to be between 100 and 105 degrees in Western Nevada.
During the advisory, the weather service recommends drinking plenty of water, wearing loose light-colored clothing and staying out of direct sunshine.
"It's not too good for people with respiratory problems or the very old or very young," O'Hara said. "They are still going to have to take shelter and use air conditioning if possible. It's going to be kind of difficult for people over the next week or so."
