Douglas County deputies and Search and Rescue personnel began evacuating residents on the north side of Highway 208 at Albite beginning at Topaz Joe's at 5 p.m.
Smith Valley High School is being prepared as a preliminary evacuation center.
Highway 208 is currently shut down to all non-law enforcement traffic.
