Tankers and engines quell flames on north side of 208

Bureau of Land Management spokesman Mark Struble reported as of 6 p.m., the Sleeping Elephant fire had jumped State Route 208 but air tankers and fire engines stopped the slopover on the north side of the highway.

No structures were reported lost although 300 homes were threatened at the height of the fire.

Topaz Lodge volunteered to open its convention center to evacuees and emergency personnel.
