The state is working on installing a median cable barrier on Highway 395 running from a fifth of a mile north of Muller Lane to about a fifth of a mile south of Topsy Lane. The $2.163 million project. Work between Highway 88 and Genoa Lane is being done 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Sunday through Thursday until Aug. 25, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation Web site.

Red sky at morn, sailor be warned

I don't know what we're sailing into today, but the sky is definitely red this morning. The National Weather Service is predicting isolated thunderstorms today, but the some of the thick clouds hovering over us don't look all that isolated. The high temperatures today is supposed to hit 99 degrees, dropping over the weekend down to 97. The Weather Service is betting some all time temperature records are going to fall today. There's a heat advisory and a red flag warning today. At 6 a.m., the temperature is 63 degrees in Genoa.

Alpine County responded to a report of a brush fire on Highway 89 between Turtle Rock Park and Sierra Pines. It doesn't appear to have done much, though. Meanwhile, crews continue to douse hotspots in the Angora fire and expect to have the thing completely cold by 6 p.m. Tuesday.
