The Dakota Organization's production of "Sylvia" by A.R. Gurney opens tonight at the CVIC Hall in Minden. The play is about a dog found in Central Park and her unexpected adoption by an otherwise happy couple. As a street-smart mixture of Labrador and poodle, Sylvia causes her adopted human to fall in love with her. Love ensues between man and dog, but becomes the bone of contention with his spouse. And so the drama unfolds in this comedy about man's best friend and her human experience.
With a talented cast of actors, Sylvia's characters offer personalities that will capture your heart. Elizabeth Brissenden, an actress with past movie credits, portrays Sylvia, the loveable canine. As the canine love object between the happily married couple, she provokes opposing emotions when she joins the household.
Dave Anderson plays Greg who rescues Sylvia from the park. As Sylvia's prime benefactor with a heart of gold, he defends her addition to their home. Kate is the jealous wife, portrayed by Lucille Rao. Teri Lynn, Ed Scott and Diana Jones balance out the cast. The play is directed by Rod Hearn and James Scoggins as assistant director.
"Sylvia" promises an evening of unequaled entertainment in downtown Minden. Performances are scheduled for today, Saturday, July 27 and 28 at 7 p.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday, July 28 and 29 at Tickets are $15 for general admission, $10 for seniors, 55 and older, and youths, 17 and younger. The Dakota Organization has partnered with DAWG (Douglas Animal Welfare Group) to raise funds through ticket sales for "Sylvia." The theater group has contributed a portion of ticket sales from past productions to the Alzheimer's Association of Northern Nevada.
