Record-breaking temperatures have everyone looking for ways to beat the heat and our furry friends across Northern Nevada are ready to cool off and enjoy a howling-good time at this year's Dirty Dog Wash.
The Dirty Dog Wash is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 29 at the Douglas County Senior Center, 2300 Meadow Lane, Gardnerville.
In addition to dog washes, nail trims and pet health consultations, it's a great way to get your dog out for an afternoon of socialization. Donations are requested for each service or consultation. Gently used or new pet supplies such as crates, beds, collars, leashes and bowls will be accepted for donation or trade.
Dr. Linda Miner, other local veterinarians and technicians and DAWG volunteers will be on hand to help and answer questions.
Entertainment will be provided by McClain's Mobile Music and DJ Service. There will be games and the chance to win a prize or treat from Max's Pet Supplies.
Miss Douglas County, Christy Swartz, will be at the event to talk about her preparations for the 2007 Miss Nevada Pageant.
Hot dogs, cold beverages and frozen treats will be available for purchase. All the donations received go to the Douglas Animal Welfare Group.
The nonprofit group DAWG uses the donations to help improve the lives of animals at the Douglas County Animal Shelter. DAWG works to find homes for adoptable pets and encourages responsible pet ownership through community education and low-cost microchip, rabies, spay and neuter clinics.
Donations of old towels, dog shampoo and dog toys are accepted and the loan of extra long hoses with nozzles is appreciated.
Make raffle donations by calling coordinator Lori at 781-2215. Information, Terrie, 265-3059.
