A photograph of cowboys roping a calf at the Bridgeport, Calif., rodeo took top honors at the July meeting of the Carson Valley Photo Club.
Photographer Anne Bothwell titled her color photograph "It's All in the Ropes" and froze the cowboy's lasso as it was about to drop over the calf's neck.
Second- and third-place went to club president Dave Colon for his pictures of a stunt plane at the peak of a hammer stall during this year's Wings of Change air show at the Minden-Tahoe Airport and of water droplets from a fountain frozen in time.
The theme for this month's competition was "action." Club members focus their attention on flowers in the next contest.
Retired photojournalist Pat Stanley, the club's vice president, was the featured speaker of the July meeting. He recalled assignments that took him from the Oval Office to the top of the towers of the Golden Gate Bridge.
The club meets the second Tuesday every month at 6 p.m. in the Douglas County Public Library. For more information about membership and club activities, call Colon, 783-8600.
