After coming within just several outs of advancing to the district championship game last year, the Carson Valley 11-12-year-old Little League All-Stars had high hopes heading into this year's tournament.
What they got instead was a stunning disappointment in the form of four consecutive losses, ending their tournament before bracket play started.
"I'm kind of at a loss for words," Carson Valley coach Tim Jacobsen. "This was really the last thing we expected. The ball just didn't bounce our way this week.
"When we had our pitching, our bats didn't go and when we had our bats, our pitchers couldn't throw strikes. It was just four tough days for us."
After opening with twin 15-10 losses to Sparks Centennial and Reno American West, Carson Valley suffered a 6-4 setback against defending champion Reno Continental. Thursday night, Carson Valley was eliminated from the tournament with a 5-3 loss against South Tahoe.
"The kids were pretty disappointed," Jacobsen said. "They gave it all they had and just came out on the short end of the stick."
