The man who rented a hotel room last fall where a woman was brutally murdered is scheduled to appear in district court this morning for sentencing. Ivan Garcia, 24, faces up to a year in jail on a misdemeanor charge of conspiracy to violate a restraining order. It was in Garcia's room where on Nov. 19, 2006, Ramiro Galicia ambushed ex-girlfriend, Jazmin Gonzalez as she was cleaning the room, stabbed her 60 times and bashed her head in with a hammer. On June 11, Garcia admitted renting the room for Galicia, but said he didn't know what the killer had planned.
Also up in district court this morning is the case of Bradley J. Coushman, 23, who is accused of trying to enroll as a Douglas High School student last year. Coushman faces sentencing on a count of attempted possession of a document to establish false identity. The crime can be treated as either a gross misdemeanor or a felony at Judge Michael Gibbons discretion.
It will be another hot one today as the temperatures shoots up to 96 degrees. But it's not the days that hurt so much as the nights, where temperatures aren't dropping below 70 degrees until after midnight. Both the highs and lows will take a slight dive over the next few days, with the high dropping below 90 on Wednesday. Don't get attached. It's still summer after all and the highs will be back in the high 90s by the weekend.
