Carl Fredrick Hipsley


1921-2007


A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Gall Catholic Church in Gardnerville for Carl Frederick Hipsley, 85, who died July 18, 2007 at his Gardnerville home.

Mr. Hipsley was born Oct. 26, 1921, in Clarke County, Iowa. He met his future wife Elizabeth "Betty" McCann in the sixth grade and they were married in 1941.


He became a member of the Catholic Church before their marriage and his faith was an important part of his life.


He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and was proud that each of his three children received 12 years of Catholic education.

Before retirement he was a United States Poultry Inspector and traveled throughout California and Oregon. For many years he was an active member in the Grand Order of Elks in Fallon.


The Hipsleys became Phoenix Suns fans and enjoyed years of bowling during their retirement years in Sun City, Ariz.


They moved to Gardnerville in recent years and frequented the Carson Valley Inn, enjoying the warm welcome they always received from the staff at Katie's Restaurant.

He was preceded in death by his son, Edward. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth Hipsley of Gardnerville; his son Richard and wife Leanne Hipsley of Elko; daughter Joyce Herman Lackey and husband Larry of Gardnerville; sister Maxine Lewis of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; grandchildren Jeff Herman and wife Pam of Minden, Jacque Werner and husband Todd of Gardnerville, Jonathan Herman of Mound House; Sayde Hipsley of Florida, Cherise Shrader of New Mexico, Drew and Dylan Hipsley of Elko as well as seven great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, numerous nieces and cousins.


Arrangements are in the care of FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville.


The family would like to extend their thanks to St. Mary's Hospice of Northern Nevada for the professional and kind care the provided in Mr. Hipsley's final weeks.
