Parenting classes offered at Family Support Council

The Family Support Council offers classes in parenting and support for families with infants to teens with information on breast-feeding, There are support groups for grandparents raising children and victims of domestic violence.


Weekly parenting classes begin Oct. 7 for children to 5 years, Oct. 8 for children 13-18, and Oct. 9 for children 6-12.


No charge for ongoing Family to Family classes. There is a $10 fee for materials for parenting classes. Free on-site baby-sitting available. Register early, classes fill up fast.


Classes held at the Family Support Council conference room, 1255 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville. For more information, call Debbie Posnien or Danielle Reihl at 782-8692.


Some of the Family Support Council classes offered:


-- Family to Family Connection provides information, parent/child workshops and support to families with infants up to 4 years.


Workshops include toddler time, afternoon of art, potty training, making baby food, child safety, infant CPR and first aid, music and motion. Other F2F services or programs include LaLeche League breast-feeding support, individual development assessments and a lending library. Information, contact Danielle Reihl at 782-8692.


-- G.A.P. - Grandparents and others parenting grandchildren or nieces and nephews. Classes held 10-11:30 a.m. the last Friday of the month. Families come together for support and referrals. All classes provide free baby-sitting.


-- Women's Support Group


6-7:30 p.m. Wednesdays. The group addresses needs of victims of domestic violence and issues women would like to discuss. Drop-ins welcome. Information, Orita Keebaugh, Shannon Harris or Cindy Fanning at 782-8692.
