The lights are going out tonight along Douglas Avenue in Gardnerville. Sierra Pacific Power Co. is shutting off the power to about 100 people starting at 10 p.m. tonight. The juice won't come back on until 6 a.m., according to power company spokesman Karl Walquist.

We received a note from Tate Publishing and Enterprises that Gardnerville author Tomacina Hochgurtel's book "Aunt Mommy" has been released. In May, People Editor Jo Rafferty interviewed Tomacina, who manages the Two Guys From Italy restaurant in Gardnerville for her family. The book is the story of her taking care of her nephew with Down syndrome. The book can be found at www.tatepublishing.com, in addition to the usual bookselling Web sites.

Temperatures are going to heat up again this weekend with the high on Saturday predicted to hit 97 degrees in Minden. Today's high is predicted to hit 95 degrees and it will be sunny. We'll see some afternoon breezes, but otherwise things are going to be warm and sunny.
