Douglas High School senior-to-be Whitney Lindsey traveled to the Bay area over the weekend for what was to be her first serious half-marathon.
The Tiger cross country standout was plenty impressive on the first go-around.
Lindsey completed the San Francisco Marathon half-marathon course, which traveled through downtown along Pier 30 and ended at Golden Gate Park, in 1 hour, 34 minutes and 22 seconds.
The finish was good enough for second in the girls' under-19 age group. More impressively, she was the ninth to finish out of 2,667 women entered, and placed 73rd overall out of 4,924 entries.
Lindsey qualified for the 4A State Cross Country Championships in each of the last two seasons and is expected to be among the Northern 4A's top runners this year.
Earlier this summer, Lindsey's older sister, Andrea, qualified for the world olympic-distance triathlon championships after competing in her first event at that distance.
